Try to avoid Symantec, McAfee, BitDefender and Kaspersky which have all been shown to be resource hogs. But, I should also point out that they also have the best detection and removal rates. Trend Micro is less demanding but has a lower detection and removal rate.

If you are talking about free then it will be avast and AVG

If you are talking paid then it is nod32.

Nod32 does not use much resources. in my system it only takes up 3MB of RAM.
AVG and AVAST Home Edition are both free and use minimal system resources.
AVG antivirus is one of the best antiviruses.It keeps your computer really safe and does not reduce its speed as well.
