Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and find your antivirus program. Highlight it then click to remove it. After removal, close the Control Panel and restart the computer so the change will take effect. there might be a few files left to delete, but they will not affect your registry. If you are very concerned about this, you can clean the registry safely and quickly using Microsoft's Live OneCare Cleanup Scan.

Generally speaking, there are little, if any, bread crumbs left behind in your file system and registry. I would only worry with it it becomes a problem.
