Also, it's a custom virus and I doubt it will ever be detected. It was made by someone from my school (who i don't know). Try booting your PC into SAFE MODE. This is usually done by pressing F8 when your PC is booting.
Once in safe mode, do a full system scan using CA AntiVirus, if it is still working (it should be, unless the virus has completely corrupted it).
If the CA AntiVirus still does not work in safe mode, then try completely reinstalling it.
If, after all the above, CA is still messed up, then try to do a system restore and restore your PC to earlier date.
How do I know if I'm deleting the wrong smss.exe?
If it is in C:\Windows\System32 it belongs to the Operating System - in all other places it is malware.

It is fairly common for trojans to masquerade as actual windows components. The safest way to be sure if it's okay to delete the process is to go to Start%26gt;Run%26gt;msconfig and select the startup tab. Then locate the process and disable it on startup. If your computer acts normal after restart then you probably don't need that process running. However removing it may be unnecessary after it is disabled. Never be in too much of a hurry to remove .exe files as they may be needed for programs and you may not know it right away.

the w810i is a walkman-phone, and not a smartphone. therefore there is no worry about viruses. mp3 files normally don't contain viruses unless you've been illegally downloading them from questionable sources.
While I agree with Jay Moore, I'll like to point out that non-smartphones also have a high risk not a no-risk of getting viruses on their phone (or is it vira, plural for virus that is). Anyway, the 3230 of my brother's girlfriend got a virus on the phone without getting at the memory card or at least that's what we think but either way, the phone's been taken for a "flush" along with the memory card but back to what I was saying, a normal mobile phone can get a virus especially through bluetooth communication especially at the cinemas (or movies in the U.S) where as I've experienced myself. Best way to prevent viral corruption of your w810i is by not leaving your bluetooth on (it's logical cos your phone's battery dies too quickly that way). Also, receive files from devices you know.
As for anti-virus, my brother had one on his old 6670 so I guess you too can. He's about to put it on his N70 and I'll also love to but not until I get a 1GB or 2GB memory card for my K750i, cos then I may be less vigilant for viruses (vira, whatever!). I however don't know about cmpatibility but that shouldn't pose much of a problem.

Antivirus software is installed on your computer and runs in the background and checks files, downloads, emails etc. for viruses. McAfee is a one and there are several other free ones available online. Just do a search for "free antivirus software" and you will find many. The biggest thing to remember is you need to update the virus definitions on a regular basis as new viruses are released all the time.
As far as Limewire, it may help find viruses that are included in files downloaded through limewire. Remember that there are other types of dangerous programs that can be downloaded through a file sharing system that won't be caught by antivirus. If you are going to use file sharing programs, do so at your own risk.
McAfee is a good antivirus software. I'm not sure what it has to do with downloading LIMEWIRE though.

When I had Norton I used the 3 progs below with no problems (they are free versions), that was in 2003 tho they may conflict now, if they do go to the softwares website and they will tell you how to configure Norton so it doesn't interfere.

Do you have your installation disk? Sounds like your best bet is to reinstall your OS. If you need to find out how to do it (I don't know what OS you have) just google "how do I re-install a XP, Vista, etc".

Well. You probably bought a old Norton anti virus Kit. Not that good i would advise you to get A Apple computer. It barely has any viruses for it. And another pretty good anti virus protection is AVAST try it.
You paid a 12 month subscription, once it expires, like a newspaper subscription, you stop getting deliveries. So your norton requires you to re-subscribe. It's up to you if you'd like to go on with it or consider something new.
MS Protection suit is not bad, I am not a fan of defender because it's a little too out of control with security but the firewall and any good virus scanner I think is all you really need.
If you paid for a serial, then call the customer service up, and ask them about it.
But I actually prefer Spyware Doctor, its really good. Look it up.

am having nightmares over getting error from BT download/software centre.
Uninstall BT, too many compatability issues. I've been using this FREE one for 10 months now and it works excellent. Just because you pay for it doesn't make it any good. It's just a way for the software companies to sell you another license. Norton was doing popups to me telling me to renew my license fo another $50.00 and I'd be good for another year.

You can't just disable it and expect it to go away. If you don't want Norton, uninstall it by clicking on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and the Show updates box at the top. When the list loads, find Norton, and everything that has Norton in the name. click to uninstall each one of them. When you are sure you have all the norton products uninstalled, close control panel and restart your computer. If this doesn't work, there is an uninstall with Norton that should remove it.
But, then get a ond of the good free antivirus programs and install it on your computer. In this day and age, you can't afford to not have antivirus on your computer. Avast free and AVG are probably the best two free programs today.

This MUST be due to low RAM. You must at LEAST have 512MB of RAM to get this things run smoothly.
I have a Logitech webcam, and it has performed flawlessly until now. I downloaded McAfee and since then, when I broadcast my image, the other person sees me for about 30 seconds and then the image changes to their camera's input. I've checked the firewall settings in McAfee and ensured both Yahoo IM and the webcam have permissions, but no luck. I've uninstalled and reinstalled McAfee...the webcam works great without McAfee. Does anybody have any ideas?

Try either AVG or AOL A.V.S. Both are free and I am sure that both of them will be able to tackle the problem. Never keep two anti-viruses on a single system.

I think when it happened to me, it had to do with the Date on your computer being set wrong. I had checked the calendar for the next year and it saved it that way.

The best one is AVG. Go to http://free.grisoft.com/ and download the free AVG protection. This is much better than all the ones you have to pay for because many of them create conflicts with other programs and are a pain in the bu.. I have used AVG for years, it is great. It updates quickly and when it needs an update the icon on the bottom of your screen changes from colour to black and white, u just click on it and 20 seconds later you have all the latest anti-virus updates. AVG is great.

I would recommend Trend micro antivirus software. It鈥檚 only $19.00 in most retail stores and provides you with a year of top end daily updated virus protection. I鈥檝e never heard of avg but if its one of those internet pop ups telling you they can scan your computer for free then tell you they found a virus they are lying and will scam you and maybe even infect your computer with a virus of their own. I've used just about everything on the market, and the best is CA Internet Security Suite. It includes Anti-virus/spyware/phishing as well as a firewall and backup software and even an optionally installed child protection app. I've had Norton's and McAfee and both suck. Norton's is too big, and gobbles up cpu capacity as well as memory and McAfee just doesn't stop anything. Both also cause system speed to slow down to a crawl. The help says that with AOL I may have to configure. I have wireless Cable through a router and have no idea how to configure. The directions with norton is very vague. Could it be a firewall? I just don't understand what is going on.
I'm guessing that you are using a proxy server which prevents you from downloading updates to Norton AV via their live update. But, this is only a guess. Usually, in situations like these, you have to rummage through AOL and/ or Norton knowledge base forum to look for the fix. You can sometimes find the answer at their FAQ sites.

get rid of AOL...
First of all, I refuse to use Norton. I had it when I got my first computer and it sucked.
Second of all, I will not ever use AOL. Everyone I have talked to has had problems with AOL. I personally use People PC. Been using them for quite a while, hardly ever have any problems logging on, customer service is really great in my opinion.
Get rid of Norton and install AVG and Ad-Aware and use the removal tool when you need it. (they are all free and are much better than Norton or McAfee:

AVG is decent, free and most lightweight.
Symantec AV is exhaustive (virus-coverage wise) and has good support but much heavier than AVG.
If I was you I would download Ad-Aware SE it works great!! and get rid of viruses,folders that are spam and others! Download it now!

I downloaded both of these softwares from download.com. I didnt like them so i uninstalled them correctly and no longer appear in the list of programs. but when i check my security center, it says both zone alarm and threatfire are on and reporting to be working. HOW DO I GET THESE THINGS OFF FOR GOOD? I HAVE VISTA HOME PREMIUM. PLZ HELP!
If you uninstall both programs correctly in the (add/removed) program list, then the files are gone. To make sure all fragments are gone go to System Restore this will take your computer back a few days before you install these programs and then everything would be alright again. Go to Start%26gt;All Programs%26gt; Accessories%26gt;system Tools, and then System Restore, follow directioms as to restoring your computer. Good Luck. I have Window Vista Home Premium also and I am not going to put anything extra on my computer, when you start doing that things start to go wrong. Window Vista comes with (Window Defender) a very good spyware program and with an antivirus program preloaded on your computer, all you need to do is to make sure that you put all settings to (automatic update) this include your windows updates, antivirus program and spyware program, this is all the protection that you need in window vista. Nice choice of product . The older versions are completely removed/erased/uninstalled . This uninstall will be performed when installing the new versions . A pop up may appear and alert the user of this uninstall . Always accept the uninstall . Be sure to run a "Full System Scan" after the install is complete .
AVAST by far. Extremely easy to use. Very thorough. Updates automatically everyday. FREE.

During the time I was using Windows (up until a few months back) I didn't get a single virus during the time I had Avast; and I think that's an awesome record for windows.
Now I'm on OS X, and everything's sweet.
So yeah, Avast it is.

Definately avast, i used to have AVG Free Edition. But i was told that there was loads of spyware included with the file download, but now i have avast its just so much more advanced also its easy to use. I think because of that virus i am not be able to format my disk and also not be able to run bootable disk through CD drive after making all the necessary settings.

Sounds like you have a trojan or a virus already.
Download Adaware, install it, and run it.
It's a rogue antivirus program and it is bad news. The best way to get rid of it is use a good removal program like Rogue Remover Free. Doing a system restore will not remove it for you because it still be in the the undo restore point that windows automatically creates every time you do a system restore. But spyware removal programs will delete it out of the registry for you.
thats a virus in its self, my friend had one of those, if you have limewire delete it, then do a system restore go to :: start, all programs, accesories, system tools, system restore, go back a few days, then should be fine

You really haven't given enough detail to determine why you can't download it. You will probably need to go to Nortons site for troubleshooting....but...Honestly...I don't care much for Norton. I'm trying to set up Norton antivrus via a cd rom but my pc won't automatically run the cd. I'm using windows vista and I can't find the "My Computer" icon. How else can I start the cd rom?

Symantec Corporate is the best for me. Mostly because it is very light, (does not use much memory). But it does not save me from spyware. I would say if you need antivirus and the whole anti-spyware package + more I would check out Norton 360 that has it all! I think its around 80 Bucks and you get 1 year of complete protection for up to 3 pc's.

Somehow I had spyware in the computer. I deleted it. Will the Norton system delete all those darned cookies? I'm getting 300 bulk messages a day
AVG is free from www.grisoft.com. That will give you a good virus scanner. Then you need a spyware program, like Spybot Search and Destroy. In email, you really can't stop the bulk messages. Abandon that email address and start a new one.
yes avg is free and even better than norton. you should also bak that up by first scanning with avg then scan with http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ housecall has found trojans norton didn't even know existed and they want money for norton. :)
I agree with bmp159. Either get Mcfee or AVG. But I want to point that if you get Mcfee, it doesn't stop all the viruses-juat most of them.
get mcafee it stops them before they get a chance to get on your computer and they also have a firewall you can download also

I personally stay away from norton, it just eats a lot of puter resorces ,meaning puter slows ya down!. I recommend the zonelabs internet suite at www.zonelabs.com, which has antispyware (similar to spybot,adaware) firewall %26lt;%26lt;++ very cool, and antivirus too,which is updated allmost ev two days or so.
