Try using Zone Alarm Antivirus.

system problem?
Check your HDD.
Stick with Norton anti-virus. It works great, no matter what everyone thinks, delete ever antivirus you have and just use that one. Alot of them have spam built right in to it.

Stay safe. and enjoy
If your system is old or with low calculating capabilities you may have this problem. The antivirus software is set up to scan your PC every day or every hour! It's recommended but try to set all scanning to be performed at night or once a week. I suppose you have browsing "hygiene" and you know where the viruses are. Stay away from "Adult" sites (or be careful) and cracks sites they are very dangerous. Check the options of the antivirus software if it's set to high level of protection it will make your system slowdown.
Could be adware, spyware or VIRUS. Or other programs running in the background. If you have Norton Antivirus it might be slowing down your computer. Try a different Antivirus if that's the case.

Scan your computer!
