Looking for free antivirus that won't chew up computer resources?

I run AVG on my computer just fine, but my dad has a slower, older computer (running win XP - just) and he says AVG is making it run too slowly, so he keeps deleting it and getting tonnes of viruses to slow down his computer instead.

Any advice on a good free anti virus that doesn't use much of the computer when its running in the background?

ask your dad to ONLY use Firefox+Adblock Plus +noscript

Download and run firefox to protect your from future spyware attacks and pop ups which are coming in through internet explorer (Trojan downloaders, win32 ) .Then update your windows through firefox

Browser attacks aren't easy to spot because they piggyback on legitimate traffic that doesn't exhibit many obvious warning signs

install addition protection into firefox with

Adblock Plus

There's a browser safer than Firefox...
