I recommend having 2 virus programs downloaded and up to date. But DO NOT have them both active at the same time. Choose one to be your active scanner, disable the other one. In case of a problem you would scan with your primary, then disable it, and scan with the secondary.

Having 2 active at the same time may cause one virus scanner to mark the other virus scanner as a virus.

No, better not. One of them may cause your system problematic.
Yes you can but they might think the other one is a virus. Unless you can set it up to skip one. But I would only install one and keep it up to date. If they are set to scan all the time they can really slow down your computer.
