Help please: My antivirus is symantec...?

I know it sucks(everyone tells me) and it wasn't me who put it, anyway...

I want to get rid of it and put a new one but when i go to add/remove programs the little box that says change/remove has dissappeared.That's because(i think) my cousin tried a couple of times to get rid of it to install a new one but it wouldn't go.So now i can't get it off and i probably have some virus or bug in my system..

What should i do?
