hi there, i have used NOD32, Kaspersky Anti-Virus, Norton, Bit defender etc., but i have to say for your RAM size NOD32 is the best as it uses very less memory while its running compared to other softwares.

The best one is AVG. Go to http://free.grisoft.com/ and download the free AVG protection. This is much better than all the ones you have to pay for because many of them create conflicts with other programs and are a pain in the bu.. I have used AVG for years, it is great. It updates quickly and when it needs an update the icon on the bottom of your screen changes from colour to black and white, u just click on it and 20 seconds later you have all the latest anti-virus updates. AVG is great.
I will recommend Norton Internet Security 2008. It has better performance, stability and less conflicts. Iam using it and it very easy and faster than other older versions of Norton.

Well I'm running Windows XP SP2 with 512 megs RAM and I'm using Kaspersky Anti-Virus, and it's been doing me great havn't gotten a virus yet and I've been running it for the last half year.

It sounds like maybee your drivers are out of date or your trying to run something your graphic properties are not set for.
Try this: right click on your desktop and choose "Properties". Now click on the "Settings" tab. Now click on "Advanced". Now click on the "Monitor" tab, and then change the screen refresh rate from 60 hertz to 75 hertz. Now click on Apply and then OK. That ought to do the trick.

maybe you should first open the windows task manager (by pressing ctrl+alt+del, if you really didn't knew),go to processes tab and then terminate the anti virus process by finding it. it should solve you problem.

Suggestion 1:

CTRL+ALT+DEL to open Task Manager

On Processes Tab

Look for the filename of the antivirus you are using... some files there a linked to your antivirus

Click the file then click end process

Suggestion 2:

Right click the antivirus icon on your system tray (near the clock) then click exit / close / end program
